Scanning barcodes, QR codes and printing labels
On the Sales screen, every scan adds one item straight to the cart — no need to tap the product. The system looks the code up by barcode first, then by SKU.
1. Assign barcodes to products
Open Products, edit a product and enter the code printed on the packaging (the manufacturer's barcode) in the Barcode column of each variant. Each code can belong to only one variant. See also managing products.
For items without a manufacturer barcode (home-made goods, loose items), leave it blank — you can print labels from the SKU (section 4).
2. Using a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner
- Most scanners work like a keyboard: plug in the USB cable (or pair over Bluetooth) and they work, no software needed.
- The scanner must send an Enter key after each code (the default on most models). If the code only appears in the search box, scan the "Add Enter / CR suffix" setup code from the scanner's manual.
- Scan while the cursor is in the product search box, or when no input field is selected. If you are typing in another field (cash received, discount…), click the search box before scanning.
- After a scan, the message under the search box shows the result with a beep:
- Added … — the item is in the cart. Scan again to increase the quantity.
- No product with code … — the code is not assigned to any product.
- Not enough stock — the branch you are selling from is out of stock.
- Typing a code or SKU and pressing Enter works the same as scanning. When you type a product name and only one product is left in the list, press Enter to add it.
A 1D scanner (red laser) reads barcodes only. A 2D scanner (camera-based) reads both barcodes and QR codes.
3. Scanning with a phone or tablet camera
- Tap the scan button next to the product search box.
- The first time, the browser asks for camera access — choose Allow.
- Point the camera at the barcode or QR code. Each code read adds one item to the cart; the scanner stays open so you can scan several items. Tap Close when done.
Camera scanning needs an internet connection the first time it opens. If you blocked the camera by mistake, open the browser's site settings and allow it again.
4. Print barcode or QR code labels
Go to Products → Print labels (or click the barcode button on a product row in the list to preselect that product):
- Choose the Code type: Barcode (readable by any scanner) or QR code (needs a 2D scanner or a camera).
- Choose the Label size: 50 × 30, 40 × 30 or 35 × 22 mm label rolls for thermal label printers, or an A4 sheet of 3 × 8 labels.
- Choose whether to print the Product name and Price.
- Enter the number of Labels next to each product, check the preview and click Print.
- In the print dialog, pick the label printer, set margins to None and scale to 100%.
Products without a barcode are printed with their SKU — the Sales screen can scan either, so there is no extra code to enter. Valid EAN-13 barcodes are printed as EAN-13; other codes are printed as Code 128.
